Leadership Rooted in Experience.
Effective school governance requires a deep respect for pedagogical ideals, balanced by an uncompromising grasp of fiduciary realities.
About Ted Hamory, Principal
Ted Hamory brings over thirty-five years of comprehensive leadership experience across the educational sector. His perspective is uniquely informed by a career that spans every level of institutional life—from classroom instruction and school founding to executive management and board governance.
Ted began his career in 1991 as an early Teach For America corps member, teaching bilingual elementary classes in the urban districts of Compton and Inglewood. Recognizing the need for systemic educational models, he went on to co-found New City Public Schools in Long Beach. Over a decade, he guided the dual-language institution from a seventy-student startup into a nationally recognized network, securing substantial grant funding and managing its complex expansion as executive director.
For the next fifteen years, Ted served as the head of school at The Oaks School, a progressive K–6 independent school in Hollywood. During his tenure, he secured the institution’s long-term real estate, led a highly successful debut capital campaign, established the school’s first financial aid endowment, and achieved the highest possible seven-year C.A.I.S. accreditation. Crucially, he partnered with the board of trustees to restructure governance bylaws, ensuring the school’s progressive mission was underpinned by strict financial discipline.
Today, as the principal of Sage Advisors, Ted serves as an objective partner and trusted advisor to independent school boards. Drawing on his extensive background in both student-centered design and institutional restructuring, he provides the stabilizing, interim executive leadership required during periods of transition, complex accreditation cycles, and strategic market realignments.
